Protecting life within Findhorn Bay and its approaches

In order to become fully operational crew, it is necessary for each crew member to achieve the qualifications listed below. These are the requirements for every member of crew before they are allowed to step aboard the rescue boat.

These are the minimum requirements for  all rescue boat crew according to the Maritime and Coastguard Agencies Rescue Boat Code, however, we aim to have a greater understanding of  these subjects and more including aspects of the RYA Safety Boat CERTIFICATE

To this end, the MIRO crew trains every Thursday evening to hone their skills.

Training

The RYAs’ Level 2 Powerboat Certificate is our minimum requirement for those wishing to crew the rescue boat.

The level 2 course covers a wide range of topics related to boat driving including Launch and recovery, High speed maneuvers, close quarters handling and man overboard recovery to list but a few.

For the MIRO crew, this is treated as the basis of our training but we aim for our abilities to exceed those taught in this course.

RYA Powerboat Level 2

This first aid course is required by the MCA for all rescue boat crew and gives a working knowledge of basic first aid practices to allow us to deal with the casualties we may come across

RYA First Aid

Although not required by the MCA , we train all our crew in basic navigation techniques to help us locate and reach vessels or persons in difficulty.
