Onboard Equipment

Navigation

To ease navigation, the boat is fitted with a Garmin GPSmap 298 GPS Chart plotter. As well as giving the boats location, via this piece of equipment, the crew also has access to a host of information including water temperature, depth of water, local tide times as well as a multitude of navigation options. .

Also fitted to the boat is a hand bearing compass

 

Righting Gear

Also fitted to the boat is a self righting system which can be manually operated by the crew following a capsize.

Flares

The boat carries a set of Pains Wessex Coastal flares for use in case of emergency. White flares are used for collision avoidance and illumination and red flares are used solely for distress purposes

The boat is also fitted with a radar reflector to enhance crew safety

Communication

The boat is fitted with an ICOM IC M505 DSC VHF radio for communication with the Coastguard and other vessels the radio is also fitted with an external loudspeaker which can be used to communicate with persons on the beach or personnel aboard  boat without VHF. Each of the crew also carries personal handheld radios which are linked to their helmets. The boat also carries a mobile phone.

First Aid Kit

MIRO carries two separate first aid kits aboard the boat. There is a basic kit  on the back of the centre console and a much larger and more comprehensive kit mounted on the A-Frame
