The Boat
MIRO operates a 5.8m Humber Destroyer which was officially launched in August 2006. The boat was custom built for the needs of MIRO and as such has an extra high transom in accordance with the MCA’s Rescue Boat code, this is to allow for operation in heavy seas and reduce the risk of becoming flooded.
This particular boat was chosen for its sea keeping allowing the crew to deal with challenging conditions on the “bar” at Findhorn. The boat also has a fairly shallow draft which eases operations in particular within Findhorn Bay. |
