Funding boost as MIRO boat one of three in Scotland to receive UK grant
Department of Transport Grant provided to help buy new engines.

The UK Government Minister for Scotland, Lord Duncan, said: “This grant is a fitting recognition for the dedicated service of all the members of the Moray Inshore Rescue Organisation, whose selflessness, skill and bravery has saved lives and helped those in need since 2005
UK Government Maritime Minister John Hayes added:  “Every day water rescue volunteers risk their safety to protect the lives of people across the UK. Their dedication and highly specialised skills are absolutely crucial to providing inshore and inland rescue services."

Official Launch

Picture
Saturday 8th June saw the official launch of the second MIRO boat.
After delivery from HUMBER the boat had been fitted out with engines and ancillary kit by Findhorn Marina prior to undergoing sea trials.
Present at the commissioning event were Bill and Lorraine Budge, representing the Budge Trust who are the main sponsors of the new boat.  After some kind and moving words Lorraine christened the boat "Glynn Whitehead II", with a dram of MIRO's favourite tipple courtesy of Benromach Distillery.

The boat has served MIRO well but now needs to be replaced in order to maintain the 24 hour 365 day capability.

Lorraine makes her speech. Looking on are Senior Cox Simon Paterson, Deputy Cox Donald Watson, Crew Member Mike Ramsay and Training Officer Ian Cassells.

Entangled Seal

A recent unusual 'shout' occurred  for MIRO recently when reports came in of a seal entangled in a mooring in Findhorn Bay.
Picture
MIRO Senior Coxswain Simon Paterson manages to free the grey seal from the mooring and take the distressed animal to the beach

Job done.
Grateful seal swims away , apparently none the worse for his adventure.

Thank you MIRO

Burghead Boxing Day Swim

Picture
On cold but sunny Boxing day, the crew launches the MIRO boat to travel along the coast to Burghead where it is to be a safety boat for the annual Burghead Harbour Splash

Picture
Hardy and courageous folk readily take the plunge and swim across the harbour. The freezing water doesn't encourage them to linger and some pretty fast times are recorded!
